Position: Community Development Coordinator
Organisation: Carinity

Position Overview

Working closely with QLD Baptists movement, the Community Development Coordinator collaborates with local churches to co-create effective, contextualized community development strategies, while providing coaching and insight to leaders and practitioners to expand local services and projects.

A significant part of the role is administering the Carinity Community Collaborative Grants initiative that seeks to fund QLD Baptist church projects in the relief and mitigation of poverty via activity and projects for the disadvantaged, vulnerable, and promote increased community connections (i.e., socialisation etc).

Key Selection Criteria

  • Ability to work within the Christian ethos and framework of Carinity and demonstrated commitment and initiative within community development works.
  • A relevant tertiary theological qualification (Bachelor of Theology, Ministry or Mission) and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level, with relevant experience in community development and volunteer management.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects and initiatives to meet identified community needs.
  • Experience in undertaking effective administrative tasks associated with the maintenance of the Carinity Collaborative Community Projects, including the preparation of submissions, reports of financial documentation, evaluation of programs etc.
  • Relational, excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to liaise and negotiate with community groups, government, and non-government organisations, and preaching/presenting at QB churches and pastors.
  • Driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
  • National Criminal History Check or ability to obtain.

 

Desirable Competencies and Experiences

  • Registered/ordained QB ministry experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working within community-based not-for-profit groups, particularly working with youth and families experiencing marginalization and vulnerability.
  • Experience and awareness of community development models.
  • A theological understanding of social justice relevant to the QB movement.
  • Ability and experience networking and building relational connections.

  • Chaplaincy Management Team – contribute to the ongoing expansion and delivery of chaplaincy services within Carinity. Direct QB church enquiries and engagement to relevant service.
  • Exec Management Team – engagement when relevant.
  • Finance Team – receive insight and direction regarding budgets and payments for grants programs.
  • Marketing Team – collaborate with marketing to promote applications for Community Collaborative Grants. Identify opportunities for positive PR and contribute to Carinity publications as required.
  • Community Services Team – regular connection with our Carinity Communities.
  • Collaborative Community Projects Evaluation Committee – annual presentation and evaluation of grants.

External Contacts

  • QB Leadership – networking, contributing to strategic direction related to role, advocacy and raising awareness.
  • QB Pastors and Leaders – connecting regularly with local QB churches, including existing grant recipients. Walk with churches to consider possible future projects, coaching, and promotion opportunities.
  • Community Leaders and Stakeholders – engaging regularly with prominent community leaders.
  • Program volunteers.
  • Referral Agencies (e.g. Youth Justice, Police, Dept Child Safety, community service providers) – development of collaborative relationships, liaison with representatives for referrals, information and support.

    • In partnership with local QB churches, research, analyse, and report on community issues and needs.
    • Assess capacity to meet the needs identified and develop strategies to implement via contextualised projects and initiatives.
    • Assist churches to identify potential resources to fund initiatives and projects, directing to Carinity’s Direct Gift Recipient scheme as required.
    • Monitor/manage and provide effective evaluation of strategies to ensure healthy, sustainable stewardship.
    • Regular communication of progress and initiatives via QB and Carinity publications.
  • Oversee and administer the Carinity Collaborative Community Projects process.
    • Provide advice to assist applicants to lodge applications to meet the grant selection criteria.
    • Promote the Collaborative Community Projects funds, for which applications for grants can be made.
    • Evaluate the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of grant-related initiatives that are partnered between Carinity and the local Baptist Church.
    • In consultation with the QB Director of Services, oversee the grants committee relating to the applications merits against the grant funding requirements.
    • Complete financial acquittals process ensuring churches have met grant conditions.
  • Develop relational connections with key community development stakeholders, including council and government leaders, local community groups, and QB churches.
    • Regular engagement with policy makers to create meaningful strategies to relieve marginalisation of the vulnerable.
    • Community networks and established relationships are maintained with local councils and other community service providers.
    • Be a central connection point between Carinity and QB, representing Carinity regularly at QB churches and events, preaching and presenting where appropriate.
  • Advocacy and mobilization of people to engage in strategic, effective community development initiatives.
    • Identify funding opportunities and assist in the preparation of funding applications and allocations where appropriate.
    • Create opportunities for people to build awareness and engage in community development initiatives.
  • Develop and Maintain a Safe and Secure Environment.
    • Reporting of hazards and incidents, ensuring a safe working environment for clients, staff, visitors, and the community.
    • Compliance with all Workplace Health & Safety instructions is achieved, working in a safe manner at all times.
    • All fire, security and infection control OHS legislation requirements are met.
